Pregnancy - Chloe's story

About Chloe

In this video you will enter into the world of Chloe and Jonathon. Chloe is a 31-year old elementary school teacher who has always led a very active life. She and Jonathon are seriously considering having a child; but with the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, this goal is now in question. When stressed, Chloe finds that tending to her bonsai tree helps her feel more relaxed and at peace with the world.

Methotrexate and pregnancy

With regards to pregnancy, rheumatoid arthritis, and Methotrexate, Chloe has learned from Dr. Stevens that:

  1. Methotrexate cannot be used during pregnancy, or while breast-feeding.
  2. It is very important to treat rheumatoid arthritis in the early stages when the treatment is likely to be more effective.
  3. For women who choose to use Methotrexate, it should be stopped at least 3 months before attempting to get pregnant. Your doctor can recommend other medical options while you are off Methotrexate.
  4. Rheumatoid arthritis usually gets better during pregnancy, so the person usually needs little or no medication during pregnancy.
